Empower Physical Therapy
About the Practice
If you've been told your pelvic symptoms are just something to live with — or you've done pelvic floor therapy that never progressed past lying on a table — Empower Physical Therapy in DUMBO exists for exactly that gap. This Brooklyn practice treats the pelvic floor the way good orthopedic care treats any other muscle group: as part of a system that needs to be loaded, progressed, and trained.
That framing drives everything. Manual therapy is used here, but as a door-opener rather than the destination. A way to create room to move, then teach you how to keep that progress yourself. Since pelvic symptoms are rarely isolated, sessions look at breathing, pressure management, hips, feet, and nervous system sensitivity alongside the pelvic floor itself.
Empower works with adults across the gender spectrum and treats orthopedic conditions as readily as pelvic ones — hip pain, low back pain, SI joint pain, shoulder injuries. The clinical team is built around full-hour, one-on-one sessions.
Your first visit starts with a conversation. Empower's view is that people are intuitive about their own bodies, so the history comes before the clinical picture — what you think is happening matters, and it's asked about directly. Goal-setting and a clear plan follow, plus enough hands-on and movement work that you leave knowing what treatment will actually feel like.
What patients walk away with is less dependence, not more. You'll understand your own system well enough to advocate for yourself in other medical settings — and for symptoms you've carried for a decade or longer, you'll find out it isn't too late to work on them.
Ideal for patients who:
Have a pelvic health concern and want to manage it through movement
Are ready to be an active participant, not a passive recipient
Want a therapist who treats pelvic health as orthopedics, not a separate silo
Lift, run, or train and want to return to it without fear
Have been dismissed elsewhere or told their symptoms are normal
Value a full hour of undivided attention over frequent, rushed visits
Great results with:
Pregnancy and postpartum care
Pelvic organ prolapse
Persistent pelvic pain
Pelvic pain paired with hypermobility spectrum disorders
Endometriosis and related bowel or bladder symptoms
Hip, low back, and SI joint pain
Ongoing issues following gender-affirming surgery
Shoulder and general orthopedic injuries
Not a fit:
Anyone hoping to lie on a table and have the work done for them — Empower will always steer you toward active participation.
What to expect
Your first visit is a full hour, one-on-one, weighted heavily toward history-taking, goal-setting, and clear plan-building, with treatment started before you leave. Sessions are billed per visit and superbills are issued automatically for out-of-network reimbursement. Virtual physical therapy is available to New York State residents; out-of-state clients can book self-pay coaching sessions instead.
